HALTWHISTLE CHALLENGE

MAY 19th  2012

The 4th Haltwhistle Challenge took place on a cool, dull day that was almost completely rain free.  These were good weather conditions for the walkers and runners, unlike the conditions underfoot which, in places, were atrocious.  The recent heavy rains had left the ground soft and extremely muddy at Lees Hall Farm and on Kellah Moor.  People remained cheerful and many said it was the best ever Challenge!  More people than usual had to retire early but there were no serious injuries.

5 photographers positioned themselves around the route to record the event. They were Marjorie Baillie, Michael Bradley, Maureen Hart, Lesley Middleton and Jackie Melville.

Here is an album of the runners.

The album of walkers is here - we hope we caught up with all of you at some point in the day.  It is a large album so give it time to load.

There is also a short album of photos of some of the volunteers who gave many hours of time to make the event successful. Click here  to see them.

(You can start a slide show by pressing the triangular start button that appears in the upper right of the top photograph in any album. Individual images from the albums may be downloaded using a right click on an image.  Please contact Marjorie Baillie on haltywalkfest@ bitinternet.com with any queries or to report glitches.)

Doncaster fathers and sons

Amongst the highlights were the group of fathers and sons from Doncaster who clearly had a great time walking together.  A group of fund raising walkers came from Crown Paints in Darwen, Lancashire and another group from Jarrow and South Shields.

We are sorry but we will not be organising a Challenge event in 2013.  The Challenge requires a large number of volunteers to make it safe and successful. We feel that they deserve a rest this year. We also need a new organiser for the future.

We know that many of you will be disappointed by this decision and we hope to see you at the Spring Walking Festival.
