Walk 15: ‘Wall Across Northumberland’ Day 1

Start Point: Haltwhistle Market Place

Date: May 2, 2026

Day 1 of a three-day linear walk from the Tyne and Wear/Northumberland Border to Stagshaw roundabout.

Our coach takes us from Haltwhistle to the Northumberland / Tyne and Wear border at Newburn where we join the Hadrian’s Wall Path on the riverside, then climb steadily through fields and woodlands to Heddon on the Wall.

Here we see our first section of the Wall itself, an impressive broad section of Roman engineering.  The next 6 or so miles are relatively flat with superb views south over the Tyne Valley. Shortly after Whittle Dene reservoirs – a great bird-spotting area – we start climbing again to our coach meeting point at Hadrian’s Wall Port Gate.
